Big trucks are big business in our country. For 2017 the Nissan full-size pickup lineup grows with the introduction of the all new Titan half-ton.  Nissan’s new 390hp 5.6L Endurance V8 engine sits under the  hood.  It’s got the same aggressive styling as the Titan XD but its built on a completely seperate chassis and has a shorter wheelbase. The half-ton offers cutting-edge available towing, utility features and driving aids, including an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller, Trailer Sway Control, Tow/Haul Mode with Downhill Speed Control and a Trailer Light Check system that allows one-person hook-up operation – including checking turn signals, brake lights and running/clearance lights. It offers an available maximum towing capacity of 9,390 pounds and maximum payload capacity of 1,610 pounds when properly equipped.  I have never had a reason to own a truck, so my comments are written from the perspective of a girlfriend or wife who would have to drive the truck if her vehicle wasn’t available.

A few of the things that I like:

  • Super agressive looking front end.
  • Powerful, smooth shifting V8 engine.
  • The available dual lockable in-bed “TITAN Box” storage boxes.
  • The interior is very quiet.
  • Despite its large size, thanks to good outward visibility and technology I had no issues parking.
  • Nissan says that they have the best truck warranty in Canada: five-year, 160,000 km bumper-to-bumper coverage.

A couple of things I don’t like:

  • The seat cushions are too long on the bottom to be comfortable for me. Someone taller (or longer legs) would find it more comfortable.
  • This market is a tough one. I really can’t think of anything that sticks out to me that I don’t like.

The base S starts at $44,650 and the top of the line Platinum Reserve $65,800

Other trucks I would consider would be the Dodge Ram and the Ford F-150.
