Family’s, couples and singles are getting away from cars. It is SUV’s that people are making the move into. Of course, a brand that is strongly equipped to compete is in this segment is Jeep. In fact, it was the Jeep brand that got the whole utility craze going over 75 years ago. I am a HUGE fan of the Jeep Wrangler but it doesn’t work well as a daily driver. So when people as what else I would suggest, I quickly bring up the Compass. It has space, comfort and off-road capabilities. The Compass has great interior space with seats that fold down. For example, the front passenger seat so you can carry longer items. The interior has splashes of colour around the shifter and speakers. The think that I like the most about Jeep interiors is the beautiful balance of ruggedness and upscale design. Some of my favourite things like heated seats and steering wheel, are available on all Compass trims. The available power liftgate is also a very handy feature. Once you use it, it is hard to go without.
All models of the Jeep Compass come with the same 2.4L 4-cylinder engine with 180hp and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. Still available with a manual transmission, not many vehicles have this option. I think most buyers will choose the 4X4 versions which come with a class-exclusive 9-speed automatic. In the floor console is a Selec-Terrain dial that lets the driver choose a specific mode depending on what you are about to tackle. There are four standard modes, from Auto to Snow, Sand and Mud. If you upgrade, the Trailhawk adds a Rock setting that includes Hill Descent Control that monitors and manages the vehicle’s speed, throttle and braking for a controlled descent. If you want to do more adventures treks then the Trailhawk woul be for you. It is equipped with the most advanced Active Drive Low system that enables this SUV to lock the front and rear driveshafts for low speed power, with a 4-low setting providing a crawl ratio of twenty-to-one. This gives you a capability that you can’t get with most other SUV’s.
Thanks to the latest advanced safety systems this new Compass was awarded an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
The compact SUV segment has a lot of competition. This isn’t any SUV, it’s a Jeep SUV. Having the ability to be used as an every day drive and still be so capable off-road is what truely sets the Jeep brand ahead of the others. The Compass is available in several trims. The starting price is $24,900, the Trailhawk starts at $32,895 and the top Limited is $2000 more.
