I am excited to begin my keto diet! First, let me get this out of the way. I am NOT doing this as a ‘weight loss diet’. I am changing the way that I eat. Diet is just the best way to describe what I am doing. I am choosing to follow a ketogenic diet because I feel it is the best way to keep my brain healthier.
In regimented keto diets, only 10% of total calories per day come from carbs, 20% from protein, and a whopping 70% from fats. This is going to be a massive change for me. Before my brain surgery I was consuming my nutrients in a very different manner. 40% carbs, 40% mostly lean protein and 20% fat.
This is a big change and I am glad to have the help of some friends who already eat this way. I am supplementing my diet with exogenous ketones. My friend Carrie is an independent distributer for a company called Pruvit. Knowing that this is how I am going to live my life moving forward, I have decided to help her promote Pruvit as well. This is a lot of changes for me. It feels a bit overwhelming but I will share more about the company and my experiences in the weeks and months to come.
Grocery shopping last week a lot of fun. Not much has changed in this department as I am still eating clean foods. We bought a lot more veggies than I a normally do. Cauliflower rice is very popular in a lot of the keto friendly dishes. Sounds like one head of cauliflower makes about 4-5 cups of ‘rice. Thinking I will consume about a cup a meal? I added more nuts, cheeses and fish. I have been doing intermittent fasting since the beginning of this year, starting my day with my version of a ‘bullet proof coffee. MCT oil and full heavy cream.
This week I intend to make a broccoli, bacon and cheese casserole as well as spaghetti squash chicken Alfredo! As someone who would kill for cheesecake? I found a great recipe for berry cheesecake bombs! Like I said, this is going to be a huge change, but I am looking forward to it.
Don’t worry – I will post some of my recipes as I find ones I like. Of course, updates on my weight and my overall feelings. The ‘keto flu’ is a common side effect that some people experience. However, this is just one of the reasons I decided to supplement with the ketones from Pruvit. So many people in my situation are asking questions. Please don’t hesitate to comment below. You never know, someone else might have the same question.
