I decide to stop for a few days instead of just passing through Las Vegas. My excitement peaks when I learn that Circus Circus has an RV park! An RV park right on the strip, how cool is that? Turns out – it is not. According to google and trip advisor it is a large cement slab with hook-ups and zero security. Nope. Several options are available off of the strip and I book five nights at The Hitching Post RV Park. It was middle of the road for cost at $37.50USD/ night It has a large pool, two dog runs and a dog wash. Most important, it is gated with limited access after hours. http://www.hprvp.com/Home
Dogs are allowed on the strip from 5am- noon. The truck is unhooked but I don’t want to have to find or pay for parking on the strip. Thankfully, I find an Uber driver that takes dogs. It cost $21USD (including tip) to go to Caesars. This is the first time I have been on the Vegas strip so early in the morning. It is a very different experience. I get an over priced coffee, let Jasper sniff around and head to The High Roller.
They open at 11am and I go in and ask if Jasper can join me. We are the only ones there and she asks if he is an emotional support animal. I am afraid of heights. Yes, on this adventure he is my emotional support. Since it is day time the 30 minute ride only costs $25USD. It is extra if you go I night. For the day time price, it is well worth it! I am terrified to get too close to the glass but once I calm down really I enjoy the view.
If you want to see Jasper cam footage of the Las Vegas strip and The High Roller – I put together a short video on my youtube channel. CLICK HERE TO GO TO MY CHANNEL
I spent some time on Pintrest before I left Canada. If you don’t know this about me already, I have a sweet tooth. One board of ‘travel for treats in USA’ has desserts I need to check out while on my road trip. Since I am passing through Las Vegas, there is no excuse to try at least one while I am here. https://www.pinterest.ca/laceyleeelliott/travel-for-treats-usa/
This is a hard choice for me. Cheesecake is hands down, my all time favourite dessert. But I want to try something unique as well. The struggle is real!! The Flower Pot Cake at Jardin is purple and looks beautiful. Crack open the airbrushed chocolate pot to reveal layers of chocolate cake, raspberry jam, and chocolate mousse. WOW! However it is the Cheesecake Challenge from Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar that I pick. It’s half a cheesecake studded with potato chips and pretzels and drizzled with hot fudge. I pair it with Disaronno amaretto on ice. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC! But I think the Flower Pot Cake might have been a bit more special. Something to try next time I am here.
Usually I go to a show while I am passing through Las Vegas. But this is my first time with Jasper. And bringing an RV. I am worried about leaving him alone in the trailer. I have seen so many of the shows anyways. Nothing really jumps out at me as a MUST SEE show anyways. Jasper and I enjoy evenings at home. Sitting on the couch under a blanket watching a movie on Netflix. My idea of a perfect night.
The Hitching Post RV park is very large and surprisingly quiet. No one is outside eating or even hanging out at all for that matter. Once the sun sets, the temperature drops. It goes from 25C (F) during the day to only 3-4 degrees at night. Maybe it is too cold for people? All the facilities are clean and well kept. I do a load of laundry and am impressed with the newer and very large machines. The two dog runs are a major disappointment. Measuring approximately two metres by 6 metres; Jasper needs way more space to run. At least people are respectful and pick up dog poop. However, the small space and so many dogs using it; stinks like pee.
I AM TAKING MY RV TO MEXICO!
Research done. Route planned. Destination booked just outside of Mazatlan.
