Struggling to find a place to park my RV for the summer I decided to just make a place! I had no idea that RV parks would be booked for the summer – or that they would cost minimum of $1200/ month. A few weeks ago I was freaking out that I had made a mistake. THANK YOU SOCIAL MEDIA!! After posting in a couple of facebook groups and on all my social media channels someone offered me place on their acreage. Since it rains so much in Vancouver I had to be careful that where ever I park I don’t get stuck in the mud. A couple cases of beer for the guys to say thanks for several hours of help. I spent $1400 to get two layers of rocks to build the RV pad and run 200 feet of water hose and industrial electrical extension cord to get 30amp power to my rig. I am paying $300CAD/ month for five months. Work that out it is costing me $580/ month to park here and call it home – FOR NOW! The plan is to figure out how to make money online so I can get south again next winter. Nose to the grind and all this time to figure out my RV while stationary. I have no sewer here so I am going to have to figure out what to do with my black water – just another lesson in RV life. I still can not believe how much I have changed on this small journey in my house on wheels. And never, in a million years would I have thought I would make my own RV pad – I am very proud of myself. And I am really looking forward to the next few months. This is going to be a great summer!
I watch a few YouTube channels that are about full time RV living (Less Junk, More Journey and also Keep Your Daydream and a couple others)… very cool and interesting way to live – I’ve often thought of doing that myself. But then the same problems that you have faced (sewage/power/water not to mention just were to park it) make me just look at RV’s as something very cool but not practical for me at the moment.
I’ve only recently found this blog as I have been curious about your life struggles… I’ve noticed quite a change in your driving television appearance over the last few years from a low to high to low again and high again… all the way back to before that ring tattoo to your most recent surgery. It seems that you are on a mostly high note again! I’m glad to see you are doing OKAY.
What are your plans for your RV for the winter? You might want to look into a solar system for your RV. I recommend watching “DIY solar power with Will Prowse” on Youtube.
Waiting for your next blog! And if you’re ever over here on the East Coast again, come say hello!
Regards,
Bob.
WOW – You really have been watching, thank you. Life is up and down for all of us, isn’t it? I love all those RV families. I have stopped watching the ones with families. A huge struggle for me is doing this on my own. I have found a lot of solo female van lifers! I update youtube the most with my RV life – and job and other travels and cars. I will be out on the east coast soon again, I hope!
