There doesn’t seem to be a middle ground with people any more. Covid has brought out the worst in humanity. You are either on one side or the other, no grey area seems to be permissible. And if you are on the ‘different’ side to someone else, the media has made it sound like we have to be enemies.

I know that I have a different opinion than what is being told by the Mainstream Media, but I am not the enemy.

As most of you know, I got a mask exemption from my doctor back in the spring of 2020 when Covid first caused people to be afraid of getting grandma sick. Because of this, I have been labeled as an ‘anit-masker’. You know, one of those people on the news who yells at minimum wage employees and spits in peoples faces. The media has painted people with valid exemptions as evil.

I am aware that there are some ‘crazies’ out there who refuse to wear a mask. But that is not me.

When shops started to request customers wear a mask, I chose to shop some place else. Wearing a mask made me feel like I couldn’t breath and I would get anxious. Then BC passed mandatory masks in indoor public places so I stayed home as much as I could. Had groceries delivered, bought all my essentials on Amazon and asked friends to pick up or deliver things for me.

But I was struggling to be home alone, by myself with no one to talk to for 10+ hours a day. The people telling me to suck it up are mostly the people who are home with their spouses, kids or they still go to a job and have human interaction. I had very little of that and I was going crazy! It is not healthy for humans to be isolated for so long.

Don’t you know that solitary confinement is the worse punishment in prison??

I decided to venture out and get groceries one morning at about 9am. Confident that there would be less people and maybe I could slip off my mask for short periods of time. The security guard wouldn’t let me enter without my mask. I politely and calmly asked if I stayed away from other people, could he please let me shop. I requested to see a manager but without an exemption they would not make any exceptions. Customers over hearing my muted and calm conversation yelled at me from a distance to just put on the f*cking mask! Don’t be so f-ing selfish.

I did nothing to deserve this treatment, but in today’s world; the media has made someone like me look like the enemy.

With major hesitation I put on the mask and by the time I was almost done, I was on the floor.  The whole experience had started with stress. My anxiety feels like I can’t breathe and my heart is going to explode of of my chest. Someone called 911 and the paramedic suggested I ask my doctor for an exemption.

What if you make someone else sick? My doctor asked me? This seems to be the biggest argument for mask wearing. My answer is simple. more than 1.5 years ago, we didn’t take all the precautions when we had a flu. North Americans didn’t wear masks. Nor did we sanitize half as much as we do now and (DEAR GOD!) we used to shake hands and hug strangers.

I guarantee that every person reading this is responsible for the death of at least one person.

You passed on your germs to someone and no idea. The media didn’t tell you to be scared and there was no contact tracing. Nobody to blame, if grandmas immune system was weaker than yours and you gave her a hug when you saw her last week and she died at 88 years old from the flu.

YES. I have an exemption but most stores had not educated staff on what this means. The security guard spent 20 minutes arguing with me before he called the manager of the store. Social distancing, sanitizing and following all the other rules; I am not the enemy. Yet people still treat me like I am.

It makes no sense to me why people have to get so angry and treat me like I am the enemy? We have all these rules to keep us safe,  6 feet, plexiglass and sanitizing? So if they work…?

Why is it such a big deal if I follow all these other rules, but I don’t wear a mask?
