In the last 10+ years as an automotive journalist, I have tired dozens of different car care products. None of them have impressed me as much as Magma from Autoglym.

When I was young, I used to help my dad wash his cars. Most of our neighbors would wash and polish their vehicles when the weather was nice. I don’t know if I would call it a tradition, but I can’t just taking my car into a car wash to have a machine clean it. Or, even worse, pay a stranger to wash it by hand!!

For most of us, our car is the second largest purchase we make in our lives. It is important that you take care of it. I am pretty sure if you found this review, you put a premium on it as well.

People are always asking me what I recommend. This is a tough question to answer. So many products ‘claim’ to do certain things but at the end of the day… do they? Even I have my doubts. Some specialty items often cost a lot more and I struggle to make recommendations.

We spend hours washing, polishing, waxing and detailing our cars. The finished product often looks the same. It is cleaner than when we started, but is the extra money on some of these fancy products worth it?

I have two very simple tips for those of you who still love to wash your cars.

FIRST TIP – NEVER EVER EVER use dish soap, laundry detergent or any other household cleaner to wash your car. The ph balance is not the same can you can cause a lot of damage to the paint. This I tell you with out any hesitation or doubt.

Spend the extra bit of money and find a wash that is specially formulated for vehicles. Go home, follow the directions and wash your car. The product I have used for this review is the Foaming Car Wash from Autoglym.

Take a look. Do you notice that even AFTER you have washed your car, you can still see small grey/ silver specs on your paint? This is where I have questioned the product and sometimes even wash my car for a second time.

These small marks are iron particles that have built up on your paint over time. Magma from Autoglym eats away at these specks. If you drive an older car, be prepared to be amazed! Even after using a good quality wash, Magma turns red when it comes in contact with iron particles.

SECOND TIP – Find yourself Magma from Autoglym. In Canada you will have to go to Canadian Tire to buy it.

This is a MUST HAVE car care product that you can just add as part of your car cleaning regime.

Have you noticed that even after you have used a good quality car wash, there are still small grayish specs left on the paint and wheels? Your vehicle is under constant attack from airborne contaminants. They build up over time from driving your car. Soap will not be enough to remove them.

You spray it on after you have washed your car (as I mentioned above). The active ingredients in Magma turn red as they react with the iron and loosen them from the surface so you can easily rinse away.

I have borrowed my friends 2007 Doge Ram to move my trailer around a few times. Since I knew it was going to be in some of my photos I wanted it to look good. I bought a bottle of Magma for him as a gift. Neither of us could not believe the red streaks we saw the first time he used it.

When I knew I was going to be using this truck more often, I reached out to Autoglym and asked them to send me more! I had used most of the bottle I bought and had gifted the remainder to my neighbor. He is washing his car every few weeks and thought he would appreciate the gesture.

The neighbor drives a 2015 Honda. He came over and knocked on my door to let me know that he used Magma his car. Only three years old, washed frequently with good products – and it STILL had a slight build up of iron on the paint!

Something else to point out. The first time you use Magma from Autoglym, you will notice the most amount of contaminants. Each time you use it you will see less and less. This means you will be able to use less each time or, depending on how often you wash your vehicle. I would suggest you use it every second to third time you wash. You will save a bit of money this way. And again, you will actually be able to see the results when you use it! Knowing with 100% confidence that the product is working.

I didn’t record the first application of Magma when I used it a few months ago. But you can go to my YouTube channel and see it in action the second time around. This was all the contamination that showed up.

Second time I used Magma – approx three months from first application.

Autoglym sent me a massive box with other car care products in it. It is not a bad thing, but for me, seeing is believing. Knowing that this product is actually working changes my perspective on Autoglym as a brand. If Magma is THIS good – the other products they have must be as well.

The weather is too cold now to try most of them. A few are for the interior and I think when I have some down time I wil try them as well. I will make sure to post a review when I do.

If you want to check out some of the other products Autoglym has, just go straight to their website AUTOGLYM

I’d love to know what products you guys are using. It seems that Armour All is the one that most of the people in my life are using, and have been using for a long time. What are your thoughts?
